In March 2022, The Twenty Seven Club was adapted for the stage by Lucy’s husband, actor and director Chris Connel, for Live Theatre’s Elevator Festival. In fact, No Worries If Not is full of truth-bombs that I whole-heartedly agree with: that council estates aren’t the hellholes they’re made out to be (I’m lower-middle class myself, but I mixed with a lot of kids from the council terraces right next to my primary school); that teaching children that there are options other than (compulsory) heterosexuality can save a great deal of pain and homophobia, both internalised and from other pupils; that attention-seeking should be renamed attention-needing; that first love is both wonderful and terrible; that some therapists/approaches (cough mindfulness cough) can make things worse; and anti-depressants save lives. Wouldn’t it be nice, we agreed, to simply ask for what we wanted in a straightforward way, and accept the answer without expectation? this book beautifully explores the more subtle parts of being a woman conditioned to live in a misogynistic world and does it with grace, flair and a lot of heart! Women are often sandwiched between generations and are very good at being self-reliant and independent multitaskers.

She recounts her life from childhood, to teens, into adulthood through a mixture of short stories, spoken word, illustrations, and space for the reader to reflect (or draw tits… whatever you prefer). An absolute rollercoaster and I both laughed and sobbed my heart out, but it’s just such an important and original read.

Although not always ground-breaking, the latter parts of this book will stay with me for a long time. But you can’t get on top of it unless someone helps you out, with reports, data, contacts or whatever else your job entails. Like “no pressure,” or “I’m fine either way,” the phrase is an indirect attempt to harness the freedom of Ask culture. We put the buffer there, so that in case we’ve crossed the line a little bit or ruffled feathers, we can quickly retreat and be like: ‘Oh, apologies, I didn’t mean to do that. The "sorry" thing is a real epidemic and by apologising all the time, to each other and to men, women really do give away so much of their power. The various elements that make up this book balance each other perfectly, and not only make it a gripping read, but give more insight into Galustian’s personality. Her feelings of guilt, an unrealistic desire to keep everyone happy and aversion to complaining about things were scarily accurate – after all women aren’t meant to make a fuss.

I know the idea of the novel is to have a happy ending with everything resolved as it's supposed to be a romantic comedy novel but I would have enjoyed a more serious novel looking into these things, maybe a murder or two as revenge (Okay, not necessarily murder but I do prefer more jeopardy and suspense in my novels)! The promotional video features comedian Ruby McCollister in a “David Byrne big suit” – created by stylist Zoey Radford Scott – who walks us through the game in the style of an 80s infomercial. It's a feminist, rom-com with heart and soul that's also a love letter to the city of Newcastle and its Geordie population. No Worries If Not is a memoir about growing up working class and queer, dealing with grief, and finding space for love and being yourself. And unfortunately, most women will have had to deal with someone like the nemesis, Jamie, in their professional life. The studio also designed a set of playing counters – a bottle of eternal youth, a biological clock and a never-ending to-do list. Soph Galustian] expertly balances humour with tragedy, taking you through the ups and downs of life with a raw honesty that tugs at your heartstrings.
