Bradford Road Medical Centre has been active in Phase II to IV clinical trials for more than 15 years. It has a fully equipped research space and is accredited as a Research Ready practice by the Royal College of General Practitioners.

We have a dedicated Research Nurse/Coordinator, who has extensive research skills and experience across a wide therapeutic area. Dr Cookson is the “Principle Investigator” at the surgery and holds full responsibility for clinical trials and decides on the types of studies we participate in which will be in the best interests of our patients. Dr Ponty works as a “sub-Investigator” alongside Dr Cookson and the research team receives regular training updates; in particular, specialist training in Good Clinical Practice.

In addition to commercial clinical trials which are funded by pharmaceutical companies, the Research Department facilitates NHS-led research within the surgery to help improve patient care nationally, and works closely with the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) in undertaking non-commercial/academic studies for which we receive funding.

Bradford Road also collaborates with 6 other GP practices in the locality under the banner of “BARONET” (Bath Area Research Network), and in 2014 approved as the UK's first 'PFIZER INSPIRE' primary care partner site.

Can You Help?

Research cannot function without the support of eligible volunteers. The drugs we commonly prescribe today would not be available if they had not been subject to extensive clinical trials in the past.

We are currently working with patients in a variety of therapeutic areas and we are always looking for volunteers to participate in studies and welcome any enquiries.

For further information, please contact the Research Team directly on 01225 781939 or via the main surgery reception 01225 435711. The notice board in the main reception area also holds information on some of work we are currently involved in.
