Buffy fans are hardcore, thats a given, but fans of this game have created scenarios that take the game far past its normal playability. As I watch the show I’m feeling slightly more connected to the fighters, but I could never see anyone in this set becoming my “go-to” fighter. Unmatched: Buffy the Vampire Slayer brings Buffy, Willow, Angel and Spike into the Unmatched universe. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Board Game, you help Buffy and her friends defend the town of Sunnydale from an onslaught of vampires and demons, while ultimately attempting to foil the big bad\'s plot and prevent the Hellmouth from opening. A lot of fighting vampires and demons, And a lot of hoping to get the one-two punch combo of items in the hand of a single character so you can make an attempt to deal with the mid-level baddies.The game is very Pandemic adjacent and overtakes Reign of Cthulhu as my favourite of this kind of game. Opening it up, the instruction book is a full-color book, with the cover montage rearranged from the dimensions of the box art to the dimensions of the book's cover. It also includes spells like The Living Flame, which is nearly essential in The Judge's game and The Mayor's game, if you want to prevent the resurrection of The Judge or the ascenscion of The Mayor.

This is where the game feels weakest to me, because going up against the Big Bad never does feel like kick-ass fight you really want to have. The players win if they successfully confront the Big-Bad three times via the 2-in-3 success rate random check before the apocalypse track fills up.

You have to work together, using all of your resources � including special abilities for the character that you play, whether Willow, Spike, or Buffy herself � to defend the helpless townies. Being able to play as Oz during the first session could potentially be explained by Oz attended Sunnydale High as a Junior during the 96-97 school year, but him being a werewolf during that time is inexcusable. Now another Buffy gaming generation is born, but is this first offering from that generation better than its predecessors? Moving is the most obvious, allowing you to jump to any location you like on the board, regardless of whether there are any enemies occupying those areas, although the rulebook does say that for a harder game you can take a wound when leaving a location with baddies in it.

Firstly any baddies, plus the Monster of the Week in most instances, will kill townsfolk in locations that they occupy. My only complaint is that the game can get a little samey after a while, due mostly to the lack of variety in heroes and Big Bads. Finally, when three monsters of the week have been defeated and their three clues collected the Big Bad will reveal itself, changing the board in some way unique to them, and adding effects to event cards. Alternatively, if you are required to place a wound token on the Apocalypse Track and there are not enough wound tokens available, the game ends.The Master's Story Artifact is the Mark of the Anointed, which is placed on a vampire servant, and gives The Master one point of life for every point of damage the servant does.
