About this deal

Marmalade was an extrememly naughty and mischevious girl - rather like a female Dennis the Menace in many ways. The episodes are: 'Marmalade Atkins in Space', 'Cringe Hill', 'The Convent of the Blessed Limit', 'Marmalade at Eton', 'Walkies', 'Marmalade at St Cecilia's', 'Marmalade in Venice', 'Nanny', 'Short Sharp Shock', 'The Nativity Play' and 'Marmalade at the Albert Hall'. Cheerfully describing herself as "the worst girl in the world," the troublesome Marmalade (played on television by Charlotte Colman) was the bane of the existence of every grown-up that crossed her path, especially her long-suffering parents.

Not long after I started doing this blog, someone contacted me and asked if I was planning to review Educating Marmalade. Educating Marmalade’ was a Thames Television production comprising some ten 20-minute episodes (airing from October 25th 1982 to January 3rd 1983) which show Marmalades parents sending her to a whole series of alternate schools, ending with her inevitable expulsion from them all. Quite a few famous folk in the cast, and think they were all mentioned in the " Game On" thread: John Bird ( as Marmalade's dad) *and* John Fortune, Una Stubbs ( as a French Teacher who keeps bursting into song), Brian Glover and Dudley Sutton ( as nuns in the rough-as-fuck boarding school run by nuns), Lynda La Plante ( in her final acting role as Marmalade's near permanently pissed- up mum), probs quite a few others. Also featuring John Bird [5] and Lynda Marchal as her parents Mr and Mrs Atkins (the latter replaced by Carol MacReady for the Marmalade at Work series), the programmes were produced by Thames Television for ITV. At 15, feeling that her upbringing had been too liberal, since her parents "didn't believe in restraint", Coleman enrolled at Dartington Hall School in Devon. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. Coleman was the first of two daughters born to actress Ann Beach and Canadian-born television producer Francis Coleman. This was followed by two ten-part series entitled Educating Marmalade in 1982–83, [3] and Danger: Marmalade at Work in 1984, [4] both of which continued to feature Coleman in the lead role. They include ‘Cringe Hill’, the worst school in England, full of anarchic punks and crooks (including a brief cameo from a young Kathy Bates, typecast from the off as a Waynetta Slob type) through to schools run by nuns, and everything in-between. Her wild behaviour has seen her expelled from virtually every school she's attended, and this fondly remembered kid's sitcom sees her causing further mayhem at a range of educational and correctional establishments.

Coleman won a Royal Television Society, Best Actress award and was nominated for a BAFTA for her portrayal of the young lesbian character. alongside Dylan Moran and Emma Chambers, and voiced the lead female character, Primrose, in the animated adaptation of Brambly Hedge. Along with the books, there were also some annuals released in the 80s that celebrated “television’s horrible heroine”. Her wild behaviour has seen her expelled from virtually every school she's attended, and this fondly remembered kids' sitcom sees her causing further mayhem at a range of educational and correctional establishments. Looking at the cast as well as the people mentioned above it also featured Brian Glover, John Fortune, Julia Sawhala, Joan Sims, Max Wall, Lynda Bellingham and Kathy Burke.Quote from: Alternative Carpark on January 27, 2022, 06:46:25 PMCharlotte Coleman, in character as Marmalade Atkins, also had a stint as the Children's ITV presenter during April 1983. From Eton to the Convent of the Blessed Limit to Dartmoor, Marmalade remains impervious to discipline - to the constant despair of her parents, hapless social worker Mrs Allgood, and child psychologist Dr Glenfiddick. For this series Marmalade also sang the closing theme (“ jobs, I’ve had a few, and most of them, were pretty grotty-ah! Quote from: jamiefairlie on January 27, 2022, 03:51:59 PMShe also starred in the P'twee version of Worzel Gummidge. For some reason, our town library in the early 90s had a lot of novelisations of long-gone media properties - the original Grange Hill novels, Gregory's Girl, Lizzie Dripping and Marmalade Atkins.

No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins.Davies revels in lampooning the education system - from the yobbish Cringe Hill (a spoof of Grange Hill (BBC, 1978-)) to public schools all too ready to take a bribe from Marmalade's wide-boy father. I really liked the MA books, although the only plot I can remember now is when Record Breakers came to her school and everyone sang 'Record breaker! She embraced the role of Marmalade wholeheartedly, and possibly felt something of an affinity with the character. Educating Marmalade' also starred the wonderful Charlotte Coleman from 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit', 'Four Weddings and a Funeral', and the much underrated (did anybody else see it? Created by Andrew Davies of ‘To Serve Them All My Days’ and ‘Bridget Jones's Diary’, Marmalade Atkins is, as described by herself, "the worst girl in the world”, a punkish youngster with lots of attitude.

Marmalade remained a total menace and every week she would have a different job such as a chef, spy, air stewardess and so on.

Marmalade Atkins can be described as the worst girl in the world, and every edition began with a “bad girl warning”.
