About this deal

McIndoe went on to win more games than the club's three previous seasons combined, which, in turn, steered Gretna 2008 away from relegation. McIndoe was named in the Nationwide Conference Team of the Year [18] and won the club's "Internet Player of the Season". They tell the story at one of his former clubs about how McIndoe used to take a briefcase into the dressing room and, having given up alcohol, presented the impression that he was carrying important documents about property and investment. City are yet to win in the league this season and have taken just two points from a possible 27 so far. That was when Paul Merson, a former England international battling his own demons, paid him a visit and, unofficially, became his mentor.

McIndoe began his career at Luton Town, where he made his home league professional debut at 18 years old against Burnley on 5 September 1998. The estate has one of the higher crime rates in Edinburgh and, to put it into context, McIndoe tells one story about the time the first Asian family moved into the neighbourhood. On Saturday, they reverted to type by crashing out of the Scottish Cup with a 4-1 home defeat to Drumchapel United but it has still been an encouraging start for Gretna with a new manager who is described by one former team-mate as “one of the most hated men in football”. In the play-off semi-final against Crystal Palace, he scored a 30-yard free kick in extra-time taking Bristol City to their first Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium [48] against Hull City in front of almost 90,000. His performances quickly put him on the radar of other Conference teams where a bidding war began between Boston United and Yeovil Town for McIndoe's signature.

He later played for Derby County, Wolves, Coventry City, Bristol City, Yeovil Town, Hereford United, Doncaster Rovers, MK Dons, Barnsley, Clydebank and Stirling Albion. New appointed caretaker manager Andy Thorne put McIndoe straight back into the squad for the majority of the remaining matches in the 2010–11 season, [55] where he played a part in helping Coventry City retain their Championship status. On 3 November 2018, McIndoe played for Stirling Albion under manager Kevin Rutkiewicz in a 3–0 win against Berwick Rangers.

The people who lost money have noted that McIndoe could be seen as trying to profit from his notoriety by writing an autobiography and, despite his position with the media, included a quote on the front cover of a review from the Daily Record newspaper. As with any other financial investigation, the prosecution – and defence – cases will hinge on what can be proven and it is forensic accountants who set about amassing that evidence. Managed by coach John Moore, the team also won the youth league as well as the South East Counties League Cup final beating West Ham on 8 May 1998. I humbly apologise,” McIndoe said in 2017, addressing the people who lost money, adding that he was usually “meticulous” about paying back debts.

It is a new look and a new start and, for the time being, he has no desire to be reminded about what has gone before. He played professional football for fifteen years at ten English football clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bristol City and Barnsley. The club would like to announce the appointment of Michael McIndoe as our new manager and Robbie Park as his assistant manager. The team played in the Middlesex County League Central and East Division One and McIndoe played 12 games scoring 8 goals. McIndoe has built a wall around himself and that, of course, makes it difficult to form an opinion about who, in 2022, he really is.While playing for Doncaster Rovers he set a record scoring ten penalties which was more than any player in the English Football League in the 2005/06 season. Not that there have been too many gripes since McIndoe started managing a side that had won a total of seven league matches in the previous three seasons. I strongly believe that Michael can lead us into our next phase and help us achieve our goals in the future, making players better and bringing his knowledge and experience inside the club.

In the 2013–14 season McIndoe along with old Luton Town and MK Dons teammate Jude Stirling helped to coach young players at London Elite while playing alongside them.

All of which makes his own life — or certainly parts of it — feel like a success story, of sorts, given that he had 13 years as a professional footballer, won Scotland B caps and would have played in the Premier League but for Bristol City losing to Hull City in the 2008 play-off final. The Scottish winger was voted in the top five footballers of the year in The Times Football Yearbook 2004/05 [1] alongside Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard.
