About this deal

The A1 is LG’s entry-level OLED, but don’t get your hopes up too much. The difference in price between it and the B1 is not particularly drastic.

All LG NanoCell TVs use IPS display panels. These are great in some respects, as IPS offers very wide viewing angles. You don’t need to sit dead-center in front of your TV to see a clear picture. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. In the same period, we tested more than 200 TVs from other brands, but these models rarely did well and there's a much higher proportion of Don't Buys among them. There is the occasional touch of class from these brands, and we've found a handful of Best Buys, but the bigger brands are where you'll see most of the quality. It's usually best to wait until the year after a TV was released to get the best discounts but, with plenty of good options available from 2022 and 2023, you'll be spoilt for choice when the big day rolls around.Four brands dominate the market: LG, Samsung, Sony and Panasonic. But some lesser-known TV manufacturers such as Bush, Celcus and JVC might catch your attention with prices that are hard to ignore. But are they worth a punt? Peak brightness, as in almost all budget models, leaves a lot to be desired. Of course, for SDR content with standard dynamic range, the actual peak brightness of 250 nits is sufficient. But in HDR (high dynamic range) mode, 300 nits is not enough to adequately display the brightest parts of the scene. Image quality LG’s powerful processing also helps in getting the very best from HDR10 material. Whether watching movies or gaming with HDR10 games, HDR10 Pro intensifies the regular HDR experience. HDR10 Pro automatically adjusts the brightness, enhancing colour and detail for a more vivid picture. These contrast issues are why the most attractive LG TVs with NanoCell are not its ‘NANO’ TVs at all, but its new-for-2021 QNED screens. This range combines a NanoCell layer with a Quantum Dot color enhancer and miniLED panel. As for 4K at 120Hz, this simply means the TV can display a 4K signal at up to 120fps. In gaming terms, 4K at 120Hz is more of a hypothetical scenario than a reality, as neither the PS5 or the Xbox Series X can run 4K games at anywhere near that high a frame rate. Many new games (as well as older games optimised for the new generation) will be able to run in 120fps mode but to achieve this they need to dial down the resolution to 1440p or 1080p. Sony's TVs are often more expensive than its rivals, although prices have started to come down in recent years. You'll still need to search to get a great deal, though. You can always wait until the January sales and then early 2024, when 2023's TVs start to go off sale. That's when TVs are cheapest. Want to save even more money on a TV? The Quad core processor 4K eliminates noise and creates more dynamic colour and contrast. Low-resolution images are up-scaled and reproduced at close to 4K quality. And, AI Sound recognises audio sources and upgrades them to virtual surround sound – so you can watch all your favourite content as originally intended. Home Entertainment Using uniformly sized, NanoCell, display particles, this LG 55 inch TV gives enhanced colour accuracy and the ability to produce wider viewing angles with less colour distortion. This means that the colour accuracy remains virtually unchanged over a 60-degree viewing angle. Finally, everyone in the room can enjoy the highest quality images.
