Journal The emollient products are not flammable in, or of themselves. However, they act as an accelerant, increasing the speed of ignition and intensity of the fire when fabric with residue dried on it is ignited. Review of new evidenceIt can make your shower tray (or bath surface) slippery, so be careful to avoid slipping over when getting into and out of your shower (eg by using a shower or bath mat). The most common way to classify emollients is by how oily or greasy they are. All emollients soften and smooth your skin, but the amount of oil in them determines how strong of an occlusive agent they are. The more oil an emollient contains, the better it is at forming a protective layer on your skin to trap moisture. there is a fire risk with all paraffin-containing emollients, regardless of paraffin concentration, and it also cannot be excluded with paraffin-free emollients. A similar risk may apply for other products which are applied to the skin over large body areas, or in large volumes for repeated use for more than a few days

Thermal burns from paraffin-containing ointments on clothing or bedding can be dangerous and can occur if ignited by cigarettes or naked flames. Slips and falls

Every time you wash or take a bath/shower, pat your skin dry afterwards with a soft towel and immediately re-apply your leave-on emollient (unless you’re also using a topical steroid – see advice below). Use Dermol 200 Shower Emollient to wash with instead of ordinary soap or shower gel. It will not foam or lather like ordinary cosmetic products. Can soothe burns: Those suffering from burns due to radiation treatments or sun exposure will appreciate the fact that emollients can help manage the dryness and itchiness that often accompany these skin conditions. Apply the emollient by dabbing some on your skin, then gently rubbing it in. You don’t need to rub it in completely. You should always rub it downward in the direction of hair growth to avoid clogging your hair follicles. The type of emollient that is best for you depends on the cause and severity of your skin condition, the part of your body that is affected, and your personal preferences. You may want to try a few different emollients before deciding on one you prefer. You may even use different types at different times of the day or year, as the dryness of your skin varies.
