About this deal

Abroad in Japan- A Japanese culture broadcast". Archived from the original on 17 December 2018 . Retrieved 17 December 2018. I’ve been following Chris’ journey across Japan for a few years now. Me and my husband, who’s been watching Chris since the very first video, have done multiple binge-watching sessions and we always wait for a new video to come out. So when the book got announced, it was a no brainer that I was going to get it.

My favourite thing about the channel is Chris's dry and sarcastic sense of humour, and that definitely crosses over into this book. I could almost hear his voice as I read along. This would certainly be a good audio book. A young man, fresh out of an English university follows a whim and takes a chance: to relocate for more than a year in a country that he has little knowledge of, no language, in a new job - no experience! A note about the writing style: Chris writes the way he talks. This makes sense since he's spent the last decade writing scripts, not books. When you are reading you'll hear the entire thing as though he's narrating it. I didn't mind this, although some areas of the books read like a video script, and could use some polish. It really does help that I've been watching the channel since 2018; my friend Sam showed me Chris' very first video from his tiny Sakata apartment. The dry, snarky British humor is what has always set him apart and that's why I've kept watching Abroad in Japan for the last five years because you could tell he wasn't putting on a false, cheerful persona for the camera.Natsuki Aso ( 阿蘓 夏樹, Aso Natsuki ) – presenter, amateur musician and owner of a beauty salon in Yamagata, Japan Another person I find interesting to hear about was Chris' friend Ryotaro. Never heard how Chris med him aswell. What interesting way to meet a friend as well. But I couldn't anything else but laugh because how they almost has been acted like brothers. Kind of wholesome if you ask me. Broad spoke at a TEDx conference at Tohoku University where he presented about the power of YouTube and encouraged the audience to share their experiences with the world through the platform. [33]

He did a reasonable job at bringing those of us that weren’t along for the ride but it felt like we glossed over more and sped up from that point onward. The focus became more about the filmmaking, which didn’t hold quite the same allure for me as the earlier sections. Cat Nation: A Film About Japan's Crazy Cat Culture.". I was hoping to read more about how he met his fiancé, Sharla, but he didn't go into that. Apart from that, I thoroughly enjoyed. So yes, I recommend.

My husband introduced me to the Abroad in Japan YouTube channel a few years ago and we've enjoyed watching all the videos together ever since. When I saw the announcement for this book I was excited to get my hands on it and hear more about Chris' journey from being an English teacher to a highly successful creator. It’s exactly what I expected - full of fry humour mixed with cool facts about Japan. When I was reading it, it felt like Chris was reading it in my head (his audiobook is coming out in September). The best part of the book is the first 60%, detailing his time teaching English in rural Japan and reaching the highs and lows of that experience.
